My top four favorite places to eat in Cabo offer a little of everything, from the best view in Cabo, to toes-in-the-sand cocktail drinking, to an upscale food court in a strip mall. And that doesn't even include my #1 pick: Flora Farms.
1. Flora Farms
Getting to Flora Farms isn't easy, but it's worth the trek. After a mile or so of dirt road through the hills just east of San Jose del Cabo, you arrive at Flora Farms. This oasis is not just a restaurant, but an Eden with a spa, shops, and of course, the farm. The restaurant menu is the epitome of farm-to-table, serving only what they grow (including meat from their 150-acre ranch).
The menu is seasonal, but my favorites have been the handmade pappardelle and the friend chicken meal (which comes with a delicious slice of banana cream pie).
After your meal at the restaurant you can walk it off wandering the grounds and making some purchases at some of the lovely shops on the grounds....or just fill up your belly some more with some handmade ice cream from Flora's Ice Cream Cart.
2. The Rooftop at The Cape
The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, is one of Cabo's most luxurious hotels and it has a rooftop bar to match. The Rooftop at The Cape sports my favorite view in Cabo.
I'd recommend making a reservation for sunset, dressing to impress, and bringing an appetite for some of the best upscale tacos in Cabo. As a general rule, I believe street tacos beat anything you'll get in a restaurant, but if you're going to eat some fancy tacos, these are the ones to get - particularly the duck tacos.
The Rooftop has a trendier vibe than most spots in Cabo; you won't be seeing anyone blowing a whistle while they pour tequila directly into your mouth - for that we've got my #3 selection.
3. The Office
Located just outside downtown Cabo San Lucas, The Office allows you to get some sand between your toes while enjoying margaritas and mediocre Mexican food. This isn't the place to go for an exquisite meal (that's Flora Farms) or a fancy evening (that's The Rooftop). The Office is great because it's convenient if you're staying in Cabo San Lucas, it's comfortable, and it's touristy (sometimes that's a good thing).
Yes, at The Office you'll have the option of having your tequila poured down your throat by someone dressed like Rambo, but it's not a total party scene. The food isn't amazing and is overpriced, but the margaritas are good and the location is hard to beat.
4. El Merkado
A food court in a strip mall? Yep, it made my top four. El Merkado isn't your typical food court. Located in the Koral Center, El Merkado offers upscale court court style dining. Is that an oxymoron? Rather than food court, it styles itself as a "gastronomical center" and that probably does it justice.
There are multiple sushi stalls, an authentic Oaxacan cuisine option, woodfire pizza, and my favorite, a stall offering all the meats. We ordered shrimp kabobs and ribeye steaks and they were amazing. The only thing I'd do differently is cut my order in half because each entre was enough to serve two. (And that would have helped with the bill - this place isn't cheap.)
